  • Well, it's been a while since I last blogged... hard to believe that I used to blog every day. I like blogging, actually, because I find it fun to go back later and remember what has happened in my life and how I felt about it at the time. I'm going to try blog more often this winter... maybe not everyday... that might be biting off more than I can chew. I'll just shoot for once or twice a week.

Speaking of shooting, here's a random fact about me: I have never shot a gun. Never! Not ever. I've shot a bow and arrow before, and pelted people with water pistols, and used a sling shot, and I own a nail gun, but none of those really count. I think this winter it would be great if David taught me how to shoot a gun. Just so I can say I've done it. David is a pretty good shot, so I've heard, but I'd like to see it for myself. I wonder if there are any good places for target practice around here?

I did like using a bow and arrow. That was pretty cool. I'd like to try again sometime, actually. Maybe David's dad could bring their bows and targets down to SC for Thanksgiving. Oh, but I'm going to try to learn to drive stick over Thanksgiving... so once again, I may be biting off more than I can chew... and once again, we have another random fact about me: I cannot drive stick.

  • Working... working... working.  That's my life this weekend.  Off to work!  Wish I were off to church or at least to bed... up all night doing (guess what) work!  Boo...

My one consolation with working so much is that I have been doing good work.  I talked with 175 brides and their families yesterday at a bridal show, most of whom had never heard of us before.  That's great!  Last night I typed an informational sheet for brides that tells about our business, the services we offer, and what they can expect as a Flowerman bride.  It's one full page, front and back, but I'm very proud of myself.  The content is great.  That's one good thing about working at a place where most of your coworkers don't have college degrees or teaching certificates, and it is a fairly new and developing company... there's always something to improve (usually grammatically) and some creative new way to educate customers about what we have to offer.  It's fun for me because I think I've found my niche on the wedding team.  Cady kind of heads everything up and designs and builds everything for weddings beautifully, Stephanie sells flowers like a maniac and contacts our brides wonderfully, Laura comes up with all of these ingenious time-saving tips for design and practical ideas about everything, and I write for our team and teach do-it-yourself brides.  Seems to work quite well!

  • Boy, is it COLD!  It's -6 degrees here, and with the windchill factor it's -23. No wonder I'm shivering!!!  Of course, where is my husband?  In the living room with the front door open, feeling the cold.  LOL.  Little surprise.  We are off to our warm bed with the heating blanket.

My friend, Carrie, was here visiting from Pennsylvania this past Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  She left this morning at the same time I went to work.  We had a great visit!  Lots of time in Yellow Springs, coffee and tea, a few season one episodes of Friends, a few hours organizing flowers at work, dinner and games with Greg and Rachel in Beavercreek, interesting finds (CHEAP) at the biggest thrift store I've ever seen in my life, and lessons in crochet.  YAY!  She taught me how to single and double crochet.  I just love her.  Wish we lived closer, but she's one of those friends that's always close in spirit and we just pick right back where we left off whenever we see each other.

Oh, David bought me a new camera because my old one broke (the one we bought in Korea) for no apparent reason a few months ago.  I'm happy to have a camera again.  My first crochet project with Carrie was to make a camera case... it's too cute!  I'm so proud.  I'll have to post pictures for you all to see.

Busy week at work.  Two weekends in a row of bridal shows... this Saturday and Sunday I'm working one in Dayton all by my lonesome, and next week we have another Dayton show at the Marriott.  I'll only be there on Sunday for that one.  January we pretty much have a bridal show every weekend, trying to recruit and spread the word for the summer.  It's the only advertising we do.  Everything else is word of mouth.  So basically, my boss gets all of his wedding advertising in this month and it lasts the whole year.  Haha.  Smart.

Have any of you seen the movie Marley & Me?  It's very sweet.  I really liked it... recommend that one.

Keep warm, friends.  Does anyone else worry about the homeless on nights like tonight?  I hope everyone is OK... it's frigid.  We are so blessed to have a home and a bed and a car and warm clothes... really.  So many people in this world are much less fortunate.  Wow.  It's very humbling and overwhelming at the same time.

    G'night...

About Me

  • I have been living with my husband in South Korea for the past year, teaching English to some really great kids. I have been married to my husband, David, for two years and enjoy traveling to new places in the world with him. We have a year-old Korean Maltese named Basho who we both love very much. In the middle of October, David and I will be leaving South Korea to go on a month-long tour of Southeast Asia. After that, the three of us (Basho included) will be heading back to America just in time for Thanksgiving.
